GOVERNMENT: The first type of government in the New Jersey Colony was a concession type of government. Concession- a grant of rights and land/property from the reigning country.
NATIVE AMERICAN RELATIONS: their relationship was peaceful, and they traded often.
SLAVERY: Slavery in New Jersey was chattel slavery, and was introduced in the 17th century. The first slaves were from Dutch Traders. Slaves were important but they could've survived without them. They were skilled laborers, farmers, and worked onboard ships.
A COLONY DIVIDED: 12 years after the founding of New Jersey, the colony was divided between Carteret and a company of English Quakers who acquired the rights belonging to Lord Berkeley
